HelpingTulsa is no longer receiving old computers, and we no longer have any to donate. From our founding in 2002, until we discontinued in 2012, we refurbished nearly 2000 computers, and helped launch 17 other computer refurbishing projects, but all of our main workers have now become disabled, and there does not seem to be anyone willing to take our place. How we got started

If we were going to provide several computers to one organization we asked that organization to provide a volunteer or two to help us refurbish the computers for their organization, so that they would be familiar with what we do, and therefore more likely to be able to support the machines once they have been provided.
Many of our computers came from businesses and hence do not have CD Roms or Sound Cards. We told our recipients if you need things like this which our computers do not have, or if you need more memory or larger hard drives than we have available, and if you have the necessary funds to buy such devices, we would be happy to help you install them while we are processing the machines we will be donating to your organization, but we do not have the funds available to go out and buy things to give to you.
We cannot deliver or ship refurbished computers. You must arrange to pick them up from our refurbishing location. If we get machines ready for you and you are unable to pick them up when you said you would, we reserve the right to give them to someone else that needs them.
The one thing we require is that you must provide us with photographs showing how you are using the machines we provide, together with a writeup of how the computers are helping your organization. These photos must be provided within 10 days of your picking up the machines.

Apparently God disagreed with that idea, because out of the blue I got a call from Janna Clark with Fox23 wanting to do a story on us. I actually did not think it was a good idea at first, since I did not have any new deliveries to talk about, but she encourage me to let her come over and see what they could do to get donations coming in again. I called one of my volunteers, Jack Allen, and he came over, and Fox23 shot a couple of hours of film, which got edited down to the clip they showed in both their 9:00pm and 10:00pm broadcasts, and put on their website.

Headed for the Hospital
I suspect a number of people may come to the website after reading the
Tulsa World article about me. I had hoped that the
article would have been less about my health problems, and the good work we are doing with
Helping Tulsa, but I guess the paper thought it was a better "Human Interest" story the
way they wrote it. In any event, please be aware
that I will be in the hospital for about a week for elective surgery, so if you call
and I am not home, try again next week.

Laptops Healed
Volunteer Erica Brown came over to help, and we not only removed the 10 hard drives from the
computers going to the YMCA on Monday, so that once they bring their master image over it can be
ghosted to the other units that we should be able to complete the job very quickly, but we were
able to take six laptops which were totally not operational, and by swapping parts from one to
another were able to end up with two completely operational laptops, plus one more that is ready
for an operating system to be transferred to it.

Generated an inventory
Volunter Don Sutton came over to help and we checked out eight monitors which had been donated,
seven of which were good. Later two more monitors came in and they both were good, so we now
have nine good monitors waiting to go out with donations. Don also helped me pull an
inventory of the computers we still have from the
computers from Texas. There are still a few good machines in the lot,
but I hope we get another major donation soon.
