Change Wallpaper

All of the HelpingTulsa ghost images include special wallpaper which indicates the computer was donated by HelpingTulsa. One of the computer refurbishing projects we helped to start, Superior Pawnee Computer Society asked me to put together this HowTo file to show them how they could change that wallpaper to credit their project.

The machine that was the handiest for me to do this on was my Road Warrior, so that is what I used. This does not represent the images we distribute, or even on other Road Warriors we generate, because my Road Warrior has some programs like Nero Express, PrintKey, etc installed that I use when I am on that machine, but it shows how the process works. The desktop initially looked like this:

To change it put the mouse on the start button, right click, and select Explore from the popup window

This will bring up a Desktop Explorer. One created in this fashion is automatically focused on the Start Menu. Click on the elevator bar and push it to the top, where 3 1/2 Floppy (A:) is visible.

Click on 3 1/2 Floppy (A:), and the contents of your floppy, which contains the new wallpaper.bmp file, is displayed in the right window pane. Position the mouse on the wallpaper.bmp file, and press the right mouse button down,

and holding the right mouse button down drag the mouse until the Installed folder is highlighted. The file name will be greyed out as you move it (see the red arrow), and when the Installed folder is highlighted, let the right mouse button up, and you will get a small window giving you the option of:

Select Copy here

Go to the desktop, put the mouse on the desktop but not on any icon (I call this "out in space"), and right click, and you will get a menu like:

Select the Background tab, click the Browse button,

Select the Installed folder (where you copied the wallpaper.bmp file), and select that file.

You will see the selected wallpaper displayed in the image of the monitor. If this is what you want click Apply, and then OK.
