Innovations from Church in Chains

Mike Stockton, HelpingTulsa volunteer, and our liaison to the Church in Chains Ministry, has been a busy lad. First he came up with a new Super Bible 95 image.

Then he used the Customize Software feature of the new Road Warrior to add the programs from our Child 1-6 image to create our latest image, a Super Bible / Children image.

We currently have one machine with this image. I would like for someone to take it and check out all of the programs, to make sure everything works, before we start mass producing it. Like the Super Bible, this is a Win95b image, which works fine on smaller machines, but I have had trouble installing Win95 images on some of the larger machines, so I will be working on creating a Win98se version of this image, as soon as I have completed updating the Customize Software feature to include the new programs that Mike added to my Bible image to make his Super Bible 95.

If creating these two new images was all he had done, I would say Mike did a very good job, but he also used a USB External Hard Drive Cage (Model HD360U-P) to make a Laptop Road Warrior, something Jim Erwin and I discussed many times, but never got around to trying. It is interesting that the PC MicroStore SKU for this device is WD1600BB-HD360U, because it is bundled with a Western Digital drive, yet one problem that we discovered with Mike's is that it does NOT seem to like Western Digital Hard Drives (we tried four or five different Western Digital drives, and they were just about the only ones that did not work).

The idea of a Lap Top Road Warrior certainly has appeal, but considering that you need to carry an additional device, plus power adapter, plus USB cord, I think that a small P2 or P3 would make a better Road Warrior. However I praise Mike for his initiative.

His summer break is over, so he is going back to school, so I suspect his innovations may slow down as his scholastic obligations take more of his time, but he definitely is a very valued member of the HelpingTulsa team.
