HelpingTulsa won an award in 1999, in 2001, and in 2002.
In 2004 APCUG added a new feature to the competition for the Jerry Award. In addition to asking groups to describe WHAT they did in their projects, they asked them to describe HOW they did what they did. This was done in the hope that by seeing HOW groups run their community service projects it will encourage others to replicate those efforts in their own area.
APCUG had 23 ongoing projects entered, from 18 different groups (clearly some submitted more than one project), and 16 of them shared HOW they did what they did. In addition they had two Short Term projects (one describing HOW), and seven New projects (four describing HOW).
HelpingTulsa's entry in the Ongoing Project category won Second Place in the HOW category. One of the judges said This project is thoroughly documented with working code and procedures. An excellent set of materials for others to copy and use.
Our entry Set Up Other Computer Refurbishing Projects in the New Project category also won Second Place. One of the judges said I liked the multiplier effect of this project. It has far reaching results that are very positive.
Five companies sponsored the Jerry Awards: Charter Sponsors Microsoft MindShare and Adobe plus three other sponsors: National Cristina Foundation, Intel, and CompUSA. Because of their generous contributions the judges were able to award $1,500.00 to the first place winners, $1,000 to the second place winners, and $500 to the third place winners.

Thanks to the generousity of the five sponsors each Second Place award resulted in a donation of $1,000 to help the project with their good work, so we won $2,000.
